In school, most teachers are known for doing more than just their job, serving as not only instructors, but friends, mentors, and occasionally coaches. In this case, P.E. Teacher Mrs. Tiffany Sanchez has been proven yet again how exceptional of an instructor and mentor she is.
Being in her third year at Centennial High school, Sanchez has created a name for herself for anyone being welcomed by Link Crew, or having taken any sort of gym class.
“Mrs. Sanchez is one of my favorite teachers because she's always been so nice and cheerful from the first time I met her,” said Senior Maliyah Baca.
Ms. Sanchez graduated with a B.S. in Exercise science and health promotion, and minored in K-12 physical education. She said, “I’ve always had a passion for sports and fitness, but what truly inspired me to become a P.E. teacher was the impact that coaches and teachers had on me when I was young. Athletics taught me confidence, resilience, discipline, and how to work as part of a team — lessons that go far beyond the gym or the field.”
Sanchez also shared, “I realized I didn’t just love playing sports; I loved what sports did for people. Physical education is about more than movement — it’s about helping students discover their strengths, build healthy habits, and learn to believe in themselves.”
In addition to being a teacher, Sanchez also serves as the Link Crew coordinator, guiding upperclassmen to assist freshmen in navigating their first year of high school.
“I wanted to become a Link Crew Coordinator because I deeply believe that how students feel when they first walk onto campus matters,” she said. “The transition into high school can be exciting, but it can also be overwhelming and intimidating. I wanted to be part of shaping that experience in a positive way.”
She shared that Link Crew isn't just about orientation day- it’s about “connection, belonging, and leadership.” Her passion about creating a school culture where students look out for one another and take pride in building community has had a phenomenal impact on not only easing ninth graders into a great transition, but also assisting upperclassmen to take a step in leadership roles, which do benefit every party in one way or another.
Many students can express their observance on not only how dedicated their teacher is, but also the competitive qualities she relays, not only in sports games, but also when it comes to the Link Crew program. “Mrs. Sanchez always wants things done the right way with no shortcuts, but it's not in an annoying way,” reported junior John Garcia, first year member of Link Crew.
These qualities not only make her an exceptional teacher but also relay great characteristics for plenty of other careers.
When asked what she would do if not a physical education teacher, Sanchez opened up about why she really began teaching P.E., and what she would’ve done if not her current job, which was sports broadcasting.
“Most students might not know that I’m extremely competitive — not just when I’m coaching, but in almost everything I do. I love watching just about every sport — football, baseball, hockey, basketball, soccer — and I know a slightly alarming amount of sports history and random trivia. If there’s a championship game on, I’m watching it. And if there’s a debate about stats or historical moments, I probably have an opinion.”
Through her passion, leadership, and commitment to students, Sanchez continues to make a powerful impact at Centennial High School.
Whether teaching a line dancing class, or preparing freshman for the rest of their high school life, Sanchez has made a very significant impact on students, inside and outside of school.
