Danika Rivera, senior Bulldog, is currently on the path to studying diagnostic medical sonography. She is very interested in the medical field and is also taking internship classes.

“When I discovered sonography I loved the idea of using ultrasound to see inside the body without invasive procedures. It combines my interest in science with the opportunity to make a difference in patients' lives. Plus I love helping and working with people."

After high school, Rivera would like to study to get her associates degree while completing a sonography course.

“I chose diagnostic medical sonography because I've always been fascinated by how technology can help people. The past four years I have taken health academy [courses] and got to learn about different medical careers.”

Rivera played softball this past fall and was hurt during a play at third base against Pueblo West High School resulting in her inability to play the rest of the season.

“At first I was frustrated," Rivera said, "because I had to take a break from softball and watch my teammates play in the state regionals. I leaned on my friends and family for support which helped a lot.”

Rivera lettered all four years of high school and played third base for the Bulldogs all four years before her injury.

“Going through this experience taught me resilience and patience, it made me more aware of my body and made me a stronger person today.”

Outside of school and softball Rivera enjoys spending time with her family and close friends.

“I try not to be home, I always try to do some type of activity.”

Rivera advises young students "to start with goals for your first year of high school, don’t wait till senior year. Also manage your time well with homework and outside of school activities.”
