On Wednesday, The Centennial Link Crew took a special trip that left them with a lesson in teamwork and newly developed leadership skills. The trip was all about connecting, growing, and preparing freshmen to feel welcome in their new high school adventure.

Starting at 9 am, Link Crew members arrived at Central High school with their bright Link Crew shirts and best energy. Upon arrival, students were warmly greeted by the Central “Cat Crew” and coordinators.

As students entered the gym, they made their name tag, then were divided into groups for the first round of activities as other schools began to fill in.

“They were a little silly- but they really got me out of my comfort zone” said Maliyah Baca, a senior Link Crew member in regard to the icebreaker games.

After about 30 minutes, everyone had fully woken up, and was ready for the challenges leader Kevin Ozar, a speaker and Trainer for the Boomerang project prepared for Link Leaders.

Students had the opportunity to converse and collaborate with Link members from other schools, including East, South, Lewis Palmer, and of course Central, who hosted the conference.

Forced out of their comfort zone, students learned valuable life lessons, not only to utilize themselves, but also pass on to freshman in hopes to aid in navigation of the scary waters of high school.

Finally, students gathered for a reflection, sharing what ideas really stuck with them. “I think we took away a lot of really good ideas we can use for next year that will help freshmen be more comfortable with talking to us,.” said Ruben Grajeda, a sophomore Link leader.

The Link Crew field trip was not only a day for Link leaders to strengthen relationships among current members, but also gave them a chance for them to build new ones, centering around the same mission: Creating a safe and welcoming environment for every student.
