Centennial’s Dominick Castro took second place at the state wrestling tournament against Erie’s Rudy Lopez in the lightweight division.
Castro has been wrestling for 13 years and 3 of those have been on the Centennial Varsity team. Wrestling for the Castro family has been a tradition for multiple generations.
“I’m the only one that’s made it to state so far and it's my goal to win one day,” Castro said.
With help from college coaches, family, and his personal trainer, Castro worked long and hard every day for the state championship. Unfortunately Castro fell short in triple overtime by 1 point, but did great overall.
Castro stated, “ It was a great experience and I worked extremely hard every second until the match. I gave it my all and left it all on the mat.”
Castro has been to state twice now and took runner up both times. “I’m 100% ready to take it all next season , these past two years have all been to prepare for next year. Every time I take second, I work harder and get closer and closer to my ultimate goal, winning state,” Castro declared.
