Pretty Little Shadow

The Centennialight

As the seasons dip and fade

With the moons each and every phase

I look for you each time

In car windows and grocery store lines

Quiet and still is your name as it is whispered by the breeze

Never leaving my peripheral hearing,

And it leads me towards the sea

Where I lost you forever and always

Where I realized I am the seasons and the passing waves

Pretty little shadow,

Don’t come back yet

For sadness is in my parlor

A cup of tea held in her delicate mahogany hands

Anger visits me daily

Fear and Death visiting monthly

Bringing gifts of good company and a comfort I’ve never quite seen

Pretty little shadow,

Once apart of me and now gone

For now we must part

Until the day I love dawn
